Why Godly Play? Godly Play is important because, at its core, it is the belief that children have an innate sense of the presence of God…they are naturally spiritual. The practice of Godly Play affirms this for the child and assists in creating the sacred space where this can continue. What is it? An experience with the stories of the Bible with beautiful materials to reinforce how special these stories really are, and to bring order to the story of the people of God. (Montessori based) *An engagement in open–ended questions that encourage the child to “wonder” about the story and discover more of who God is and who they are. (Language development) A time of response using art, story, and silence to process thoughts. Authentic relationship where discoveries are made together. The Leader is not telling the child what to think (the student and Leader are co-learners). How do I get my child involved? 1. To be eligible, your child must be enrolled in the 4’s or 5’s preschool programs. 2. Fill out the Godly Play Registration form, which is included in the first Preschool Newsletter. 3. Turn in the Registration to the Preschool Office. (Forms will be numbered as they are submitted. Your child will be placed into a session based on the order in which the forms are received and based on your child’s session eligibility. 4. You will receive a confirmation letter from Linda Cotrone, Director of Children’s Ministry, to confirm your child’s placement within the Godly Play program. *More information will be made available to parents/guardians during Preschool Orientation by the Children’s Ministry Staff.
